MARKKEER Multifunctional

A Sharpening Powerhouse

With this sharpener from MARKKEER, all you really need to know about it is really in the name. Both professional and multifunctional refer to the quality and the versatility of this tool. Starting with the latter, the model comes equipped with 4 slots.

The first one, as per usual, is dedicated for scissors, being able to sharpen them without scratching the finish away. The second one is made of Tungsten steel and will help you restore the v-shape cutting edge of your shears. It provides coarse grinding, so you can also use it to sharpen dull metal knives. The third slot will give you medium grinding, perfect for polishing and eliminating burrs on metal blades. Finally, the 4th slot will allow you to brighten and further polish any kitchen knife.

Aside from the steel cranny, the whole thing is made of ABS plastic. It is one of the most durable and environmentally-friendly material. It isn't prone to rust or corrosion, so it will keep your blades and scissors good as new for years to come.

The tool also comes equipped with non-slip mats at the bottom. They will make the sharpening process a lot safer. Having said that, they do tend to lose their grip over time, so you might want to keep that in mind.

Other than that, what we have here could make a strong case for the best scissor sharpener on the market right now. It works equally well with old and new blades. It is equally suitable for different types of shears and knives. It's a nice thing to have in your kitchen but you could also recommend it to a professional barber.

Wamery 4 stages Check price

Wamery 4 stages

Solid Sharpening System

There's a lot to like about this sharpening tool from Wamery. First, not dissimilar to the previous entry on our list, the model incorporates 4 different slots that offer 4 different sharpening stages.

Aside from the first, scissor one, you get a slot suitable for coarse grinding, a slot for fine grinding, and a slot for what they refer to as ultra-fine grinding (which, in this case, is also known as ceramic). All of these stages offer different levels of sharpness, so you can use them individually or in a rotation.

Just like any other similar scissors sharpener, the model does not work with serrated blades. But, other than that, be it chef's, clip pointers, utility knives, paring, slicers, tourné, boning, or cleaver knives, the tool will do just fine.

One thing that separates this product from the previous model is a massive silicone handle. It gives you more control and makes the sharpening procedure much safer, which is always a bonus in our book. And, just like the former entry, the tool comes equipped with non-slip pads at the bottom, another little detail that adds safety points and makes the product that much more convenient.

We could also mention the easy-store design of the whole thing that allows the sharpener to easily fit in a kitchen drawer and blend with other cooking utensils. But, honestly, everything we've mentioned earlier already makes a pretty convincing case.

The case being that this scissors sharpener from Wamery deserves its self-given title of a sharpening system. It will give you far more control over the sharpening process than any other similar tool on the market. It doesn't limit your options and it is as safe as they come, a pretty easy choice to make if you ask us.

Smith's 50185 Jiffy-Pro

Time for Some Outdoor Adventures

Smith's 50185 Jiffy-Pro is easily the most well-balanced item in this review. Don't get us wrong, we really liked the first two sharpeners, but they're massive tools compared to this one.

This handheld sharpener, on the other hand, is simply perfect for outdoor adventures. You can easily attach it to a backpack or a belt. It is equally convenient for home use as it is for field use.

The usual scissor slot here has been put in the handle. It is a bit larger compared to a standard scissor slot, making it additionally suitable for game shears. You get quality carbide blades there that, unfortunately, can be a bit of a handful to replace. But the time it takes to do so is well worth it as it is even more effective than it is difficult.

Other than that, you get two extra slots, one with precision-ground carbide for pull-over coarse grinding and an extra-fine ceramic for pull-through sharpening. These abrasive surfaces guarantee a sharp, long-lasting cutting edge, and you won't need more than 3 to 4 pulls to get there.

The great quality of the abrasives is well complemented by a large soft-grip rubber handle. Though comfortable, it provides a firm grip no matter the conditions. And despite its lightweight composition, the handle is surprisingly durable.

In short, Smith's 50185 Jiffy-Pro will serve just fine in a kitchen. But it is the outdoors where this scissors sharpener shines the most. We couldn't recommend it highly enough to people who enjoy outdoor adventures, from hikers and backpackers to hunters and fishermen.

Fiskars SewSharp Check price

Fiskars SewSharp

A Small Handy Instrument

Fiskars SewSharp is, as of right now, the only product on our list that is strictly a scissors sharpener and doesn't work with knives. And that isn't a disadvantage per se, it is just a very specific instrument for a specific purpose. It costs a lot less than its more multifunctional counterparts and it takes far less space.

We would say that the only real downside of this tool is that it doesn't work with left-handed scissors, a bit of a shame if you ask us. It also won't help you sharpen pinking shears, as well as scissors with serrated blades or razor-edge scissors, but that's to be expected.

Other than that, we really don't have any issues with it. The convenient plastic slot guarantees proper blade positioning that's essential for optimal sharpening. The ceramic rod used in the slot brings back that sharp edge in about 3-4 passes and that sharpness will last for years to come.

As the title suggests, the instrument will prove a great choice for sewing scissors, particularly because of the fact that it adds up to precisely 0.5 x 3.6 x 3.8 inches in overall dimensions and weighs less than half an ounce. You can keep it in your sewing kit or throw it in a pocket or a purse.

In other words, Fiskars SewSharp is an instrument for you if you aren't looking for a versatile sharpening tool. It won't keep your kitchen knives sharp but it is a far more convenient scissors sharpener than most similar options from the practicality and portability standpoint.

Smith's JIFF-S 10-Second Check price

Smith's JIFF-S 10-Second

A Bit More Balanced

Smith's JIFF-S is one of the more interesting sharpeners we've come across. Despite the small size and convenient shape, the model doesn't just incorporate the usual carbide abrasive that is normally used for scissors sharpening. It also incorporates an extra ceramic slot that features enough grit for ultra-fine grinding. With it, you will be able to bring the sharpness and the polish back to any straight-edge knife.

The aforementioned carbide abrasive is not bad either. It gives you carbide blades that are safe and easy to use. They get the job done in about 10 seconds tops. Plus, they're reversible and easily replaceable, making the tool's maintenance quite a lot easier. And, thanks to the said reversible nature, you will be able to save a few bucks in the long run.

Featuring 5.88 x 2.56 x 0.69 inches in overall dimensions and about 2.4 ounces in weight, the model isn't smallest nor the most lightweight sharpener on the market today but it is definitely up there. Plus, one thing we can say about this tool that we can't say about most of its competition is that the product in question sharpens left and right-handed scissors equally well.

Of course, it has its flaws. For one, the handle doesn't come with some sort of a non-slip grip, a bit of an oversight on the manufacturer's part. But it is still comfortable and practical enough, so we wouldn't really hold it against them.

To sum it up, Smith's JIFF-S is what you get when you want a bit of everything. It's a compact and portable instrument that doesn't offer as many options as those massive tools nor is it as small and lightweight as a few other sharpeners we've come across, but it does feature a nice balance of the two aspects.
