How rich is George Thorogood? As of mid-2016, sources inform us of a net worth that is at $50 million, mostly earned through a successful career in the music industry. He helped popularize a lot of older songs including “Who Do you Love?” and “Move It on Over”; all of these helped ensure the position of his wealth.

George started his career in music during the 1970s, when he performed solo acoustic. Soon after, he would form the band the Delaware Destroyers which would also become well known as the Destroyers; their music was a mix of rock and Chicago blues which was a sound they developed. They started performing at the University of Delaware, and then made their first record “George Thorogood & The Destroyers”. In 1978 they released another album, called “Move it on Over” and it had a remake of the Hank Williams song of the same name. The band would prove to be successful, and helped establish Rounder Records. They would release a total of 16 studio albums with five of them certifying gold. They also have six live albums with their first live album certifying platinum. Their second platinum album would be their 1992 compilation album “The Baddest of George Thorogood and the Destroyers”.

While performing with the band, George also earned money through working as a roadie for Hound Dog Taylor. He became friends with Jimmy Thackery of The Nighthawks, and would soon tour with them along with the Destroyers. The friendship with the two bands continued as band members would help, and perform with each other in various concerts. In 1981, Thorogood became a support act for The Rolling Stones, which led to him becoming a guest at “Saturday Night Live”. Their popularity was increasing and soon they would tour all 50 US states in a span of 50 days.

After George’s contract with Rounder Records expired, he signed with EMI America Records, then releasing the album “Bad to the Bone”. The song would become a classic and would be used for numerous films and television shows. These include “Miami Vice” and “Terminator 2: Judgment Day”. The song is still regularly played today and is even played during the football pregame show at Mississippi State University. In 2012, George was named one of The 50 Most Influential Delawareans of the Past 50 Years.
